Here are my top ten pieces of advice for successful leaders:
- Take care of yourself.
- Live and practice accountable leadership, and reflect on how you can be better.
- Be a lifelong learner, student of the business, and future oriented.
- It’s about what you contribute, not about your credentials.
- Be candid in a respectful way. Identify the issues along with the solutions. Surround yourself with people that are going to give you candid, honest feedback and that are solution-oriented, NOT yes people. People that are being thought of as future leaders are not the yes folks.
- There's no “I” in team—check your ego at the door.
- Bring in energy. Don’t be an energy zapper. Have a great attitude and people will want to follow you.
- Leverage opportunities to get out of your comfort zone.
- Give back to others.
- Make your job better for your successor.
